The last few weeks have been unreal, but as usual, God always seems to save the day.
Mr. Henderson and I have been busting our butts to make this trip to Omaha happen. I am not going to go into all the details and bore you, but we have made a lot of changes in our life to try and get a visit with someone who would actually help figure out what is going on with us.
We thought that everything was all lined up and ready to go. And then Saturday's mail brought a nice surprise...A letter from my insurance company saying that they were denying our request for surgery (the hospital should have been 100% covered by insurance and after a HUGE payment to Dr. H, insurance was going to pick up the rest). We felt like we had been slapped across the face.
We spoke with the Insurance Nurse at PPVI today and she is filing an appeal, so if my prayer buddy would keep me in her prayers, I would be most grateful.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or has anyone else had to pay 100% of surgery cost? If so, what was the total (please whisper gently to me!) cost?
BUT, you know what, God has provided us with so, so much. We are surrounded by so many people who love us and support us. I can't even begin to tell you how humbled and blessed we have been by people's generosity to us. People from my family, my parish community, even people I don't know are praying for us and have generously donated to helping us build our family. I cannot think about it without bursting into tears.
There are so many people helping us to carry this heavy, heavy cross, and for that I am so grateful.
Our prayer has been that the Lord would make our testimony a joyful one and I trust that He will do that!
So, while I started this week overwhelmed and discouraged, I have quickly become humbly overwhelmed by the generosity of others and so very, very thankful.

oh J, I'm so so sorry, my heart is tearing for you. there is no way this is a fair reason not to have the surgery, not that life was ever fair...sorry to be blunt, but this just plain sucks. why are they refusing it??? I hope the appeal works and that they pay for SOME of your surgery, because of course it will never be free! Please Lord, please make this work. I'm literally begging you to help make this come through.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for the stress that the insurance has added. This of course could be the evil one trying to muck in God's plan but it could also be God trying to get you on a slightly different path... I don't know if you know my story but I fully expected when we started praying about where to go for surgery for God to lead us to Omaha. God had other plans and the plan He had was so much more complex and beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I will pray that God gives you a clear sign of if Omaha is where He wants you and if not that He makes it clear to you where He wants you.
ReplyDeleteI am praying for you my friend. I know how difficult it must be to hear this at the last minute. May God guide you and open up doors for you. Praying to our Blessed Mother Mary that the appeal works out and that you can go to Omaha.
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating at the last minute! Insurance can really be the pits sometimes. Can't live with it, can't live without it. Prayers that you get it all figured out!
ReplyDeleteUgh! How incredibly frustrating. Praying that the appeal goes through quickly and is granted!
ReplyDeletePraying for you that your insurance will cover alot ... especially the hospital/surgery. We have BC/BS and Creighton for us was in-network, so it was 100% covered (we were out of state). I'm praying big-time for you, b/c I know what it will mean to have your insurance pick up the tab.
ReplyDeleteSo frustrating. I am sorry you got such disappointing news so late in the game. Prayers being ramped up for you!
ReplyDeleteInsurance sucks!!! Mine was also awful. They denied my first surgeries (2010) but then ended up coming back and paying. That time all I had to pay was my deductible and Dr. H's fee. This time, though (2011) they denied it completely. I think we ended up paying about $13K to the hospital on top of Dr. H's fee. They denied it on the grounds that it was for infertility.
ReplyDeleteThese situations are so stressful!! I'm so sorry they are being stupid. But sometimes PPVI is able to appeal and get them to pay. I'll pray for you!!
